Why should kids watch age-appropriate English educational cartoons?

This post is also available in:

Everyone loves watching movies. Especially children. When you think of your childhood, you can remember how enjoyable it was to watch funny cartoons. When it comes to children, we need to be careful in choosing English cartoons for children to watch. The first thing we need to pay attention to in our selection of English cartoons is that they are age-appropriate and secondly, that they are educational. Children may be adversely affected if they watch English cartoons with content that is not appropriate for their age.

Children also learn from cartoons. Therefore, if they watch English cartoons with good content, they can learn good and educational information. However, children who watch English cartoons that are not suitable for their age and contain bad information can learn bad behaviors and practice these bad behaviors. Some children who watch cartoons with bad content may begin to mistreat their friends at school and in social situations. Worse still, children who watch age-appropriate and horror cartoons may start to fear for no reason, triggering feelings of fear.

What kind of movies should children watch?

My daughter was very impressed by the English Barbie cartoon she watched when she was 5.5 years old. In one episode of this cartoon, he was talking about ghosts. When my daughter watched this scene, she came running to me and was shaking with fear. I watched and checked the cartoon and I understood very well why my daughter was afraid. In the middle of the cartoon, with the tense music, the ghost suddenly appeared. I was startled when I saw this scene. I mean, my daughter was right to be scared when she saw this scene. In fact, it may have content that you cannot predict from an English cartoons image. I experienced this badly with my daughter. I did not expect such a scene from the cartoon of the toy Barbie that we all know. So I didn’t feel the need to check before my little girl watched it.

Thus, I learned that every cartoon can contain problematic content and I started checking it. Because my daughter was very impressed and her sense of fear increased in daily life. She could not stay alone in a room at home, she could not even go to the toilet alone!

Therefore, it would be beneficial for you to watch before your child does. You can prevent your child from developing bad behavior and fear.

You can also watch movies with your children as one of the ways to have a good time. Watching movies is a fun activity to do together at home, especially in cold and rainy weather.

You can refer to the list below for English movie suggestions that are suitable for your child’s age and that you can watch with your child.

1. Shaun the Sheep Movie : (5+)

Shaun the Sheep Movie

It’s an entertaining movie that’s extremely funny, cute, and cleverly constructed.

In the movie “Shaun the Sheep”, Shaun and the other sheep, who are bored with farm life, escape from the farm with a clever plan. Their intention is to go to a beach and spend a nice summer vacation. However, when the caravan they captured gets out of control, they enter the big city, where they struggle to find their owners again.

The movie, which is especially suitable for ages 5+, is about a much more entertaining adventure than the ones in the series. There is no use of dialogue as we know it; The movie, which is mostly based on movement, progresses with animal sounds, music and facial expressions, is a movie that adults can also enjoy. Although we witness some minor heroes fighting with each other in the story, we see that no one was seriously harmed.

“A Shaun the Sheep” is a cheerful, funny, action-packed and colorful comedy movie that you can enjoy with your family. A great family entertainment!

2. A Shaun the Sheep Movie : Farmageddon (5+)

A Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon

Curious and lively, Shaun’s new movie is again a lot of fun.

The first feature film of “Shaun the Sheep”, which was designed as an animated series for the first time in 2007, came in 2015. It was an extremely funny and entertaining example of its kind. Shaun, the most curious and agile among them, is the head of the mischievous lambs of this farm. Shaun and his friends are constantly trying to get rid of the boredom of farm life.

In this second film, new excitement is mixed with our heroes’ daily farm lives and their bickering with the shepherd dog Bitzer. Shaun encounters Lu-La, a cute alien boy with strange superpowers, who gets off a small spaceship that has landed in the jungle. The two begin to work so that Lu-La can return home. However, they are followed by the shepherd dog Bitzer, who is burning with a passion for duty, and government agents trying to capture the alien boy. The attention of the whole of England was also focused on the forest and the farm because of this event.

Again, we follow our favorite heroes in an adventure filled with very funny jokes. The story sounds somewhat familiar. There are frequent references to Steven Spielberg’s fantastic films, especially “E.T”. For this reason, especially the first scenes of the movie, although made humorous, can be frightening for some small sensitive audiences. The landing of the ship and Lu-La’s appearance in the woods can get young children a little excited. There are scenes in the movie, which we define as cartoon violence, such as falling – getting up, some tools hitting faces and heads. Children who will watch it can understand that these scenes are not true to reality, they are made to make them laugh.

“The Lambs Run Away: Space Park”, of course, like the movie “E.T” from which it was inspired, tells about the friendships of children from two different planets and how they help each other. With this story, the film gives positive messages about benevolence, working together for the same purpose, the importance of communication, and learning from mistakes. Shaun’s efforts to help his friend Lu-La, who misses her home and her parents so much, are adorable. It is a good development that the dog Bitzer, who is always after him, joins this fight for the same purpose after a while. In the final, it is emotionally understood why the agent character is obsessed with aliens.

3. Small Foot : (6+)

Small Foot

The film contains adventurous scenarios and exciting scenes, which are indispensable for such animations.

Yi, who lives with her mother and grandmother in Shanghai, is a young girl who has recently lost her father. She spends her days doing small jobs, saving money for the big trip she dreams of. Yi spends his free time playing the violin in his private area on the roof of the house they live in. One day, on the roof of their house, Yi, who has escaped from a laboratory, encounters a kind of cute monster with a huge head and mouth, which is very large, covered with thick hairs all over his body. Soon after, Yi and his friends Peng and Jin, who befriend him, embark on an exciting journey to take this monster they call Everest home. However, those who want to catch Everest again will follow them.

The Yeti movie seems to break free from the grip of the good guys and bad guys by presenting some hilarious scenes while introducing its characters. In the movie, of course, we are made to take a certain side, but neither Yi’s friends nor the men chasing the ‘yeti’ are drawn like simple characters without features. Even the character who seems to be evil at the beginning of the movie, representing the chief of the Yeti hunters, is not an emotionless man who wants to spread evil after a while.

In addition to all these characters, there is the main hero of the movie, ‘Yeti’. This creature, which has always been discussed whether it is real or not, mentioned in many movies and books, starts to display its supernatural powers after a while. This cute beast, which already has great strength and stamina, has super powers such as flying, starting a storm, drowning in fog in some difficult situations. This adds extra fun to the movie.

The visual content of the movie is great. The Everest region and its surroundings, which Yi and his friends tried to reach by crossing the country by passing through various dangers, are really impressive and stretch the limits of our imagination.

As for Yi’s side, it’s the same for his friends: although Peng doesn’t surprise us too much as a bit of a mischievous kid, Jin seems like a pompous, pompous character who is fond of a posh life.

In conclusion

As you can see, watching movies in English with your children not only allows you to spend a good and quality time with them, but you can also give them the right messages about general behavior by watching movies.
